Want to know how to make $100 a day? While this is an ambitious goal, achieving this level of earnings through combining multiple side hustles is possible.
Leveraging side hustles can help you achieve income diversification and reach your financial goals sooner.
That’s why I genuinely believe everyone should have at least one side hustle. You play defense by protecting against a loss in your primary income, and you play offense by building an additional income stream to achieve financial freedom sooner in life.
For each idea I show you, I’ll provide the following metrics:
- Type of Side Hustle: Passive vs. Active (i.e., do you need to be actively involved in continuing making money)
- Time Investment: How much time do you need to invest to earn income
- Monetary Investment: How much money you need to invest to earn income
- Earning Potential: How much money you can make
If you want to learn how to make $100 a day, you’re in the right place. Let’s get started!
How to Make $100 a Day Online
If you want to make money from home, one of the easiest ways is through the make money online niche. I’m going to share with you some of the most popular ways to make money online.
1. Create a Course
If you have a unique skill, there is money to be made in teaching others that skill. When you create a course on a platform like Udemy or Skillshare, you can earn money from teaching others about your hobby.
Maybe you are a wine-tasting guru. Or perhaps you’re a great photographer. Whatever your skill, there is an audience looking to learn about that skill. If you create great content and market your course, it’s possible to create a healthy income stream.
Of course, creating a course will take a lot of upfront effort. That said, you may want to build an audience through some other platform (such as a blog or YouTube) before investing time in creating a course – that will make it easier to monetize your course offering.
- Type of Side Hustle: Active
- Time Investment: High
- Monetary Investment: Minimal
- Earning Potential: Varies
2. Teach Online
Do you speak English and have a passion for helping people? If so, you can make money teaching English online from the comfort of your home.
Yes, you read that right. You can set your own hours. You don’t need to write lesson plans. All you need to do is show up and teach.
While there are many programs to teach English online, one of the most popular is VIPKid. They offer competitive rates, and it’s easy to get started.
- Type of Side Hustle: Active
- Time Investment: Varies
- Monetary Investment: None
- Earning Potential: $14 – $22/hr. on VIPKid
3. Proofread
If you have an eye for spelling, grammar, and detail, consider making proofreading your side hustle. Believe it or not, there are countless places on the internet where people are looking for talented proofreaders to look over their work.
In the beginning, it may take time to build a portfolio to show off your skills, but as you gain experience, you can drive higher pay rates. You may even want to consider taking a proofreading course to help hone your skills.
While there are many different places to offer up your skills, one option is Upwork. You can search for opportunities to get started right away!
- Type of Side Hustle: Active
- Time Investment: Varies
- Monetary Investment: None
- Earning Potential: Starts around $25/hr. (but you can make a lot more as you gain experience)
4. Become a Virtual Assistant
If you’ve ever read The 4-Hour Workweek, you’ll know that some of the most effective people hire virtual assistants to help them take care of daily tasks. This includes things like managing their calendar, fielding emails, and much more.
If you’re wondering how to make $100 a day at home, becoming a virtual assistant is a great place to start. There are countless sites you can work with to get placed as a virtual assistant.
According to Small Revolution, the average US-based virtual assistant makes about $1,100 per week. If you have specialized skills in areas like graphic design or SEO, you can make even more. Not bad for something you can do entirely from home!
- Type of Side Hustle: Active
- Time Investment: Varies
- Monetary Investment: None
- Earning Potential: ~$28 per hour according to Small Revolution
5. Become a Freelance Writer
If you have a talent when it comes to writing, consider becoming a freelance writer.
While you may be thinking of freelance writers as those who write for the Wall Street Journal, there are many other types of freelance writing. For example, believe it or not, many bloggers hire out the content writing for their blogs.
What if you aren’t a good writer, though? There are also many other freelance hobbies you can turn into income. For example, maybe you’re good at website design. You could hold yourself out on a site like Fiverr to share your skills.
- Type of Side Hustle: Active
- Time Investment: Varies
- Monetary Investment: Minimal
- Earning Potential: Not uncommon to get paid 10 cents per word as a freelance writer (or $200 for a 2,000-word article)
6. Get Paid to Take Surveys
Okay, before I even start, you probably think you can’t make money with survey sites. On the contrary, however, I earned hundreds of dollars last year taking surveys. And I probably spent no more than 10 – 15 minutes per week.
If you want to make money from the comfort of your couch, there is no better option than taking surveys. It’s easy, doesn’t take very long, and you can do as much or as little as you like.
My favorite survey sites right now are SurveyJunkie and Swagbucks.
- Type of Side Hustle: Active
- Time Investment: Varies
- Monetary Investment: None
- Earning Potential: $1 – $8 per survey (depending on the site) + video surveys which can be worth $50+
7. Watch Videos Online
If boring old surveys aren’t your style, consider a side hustle where you can get paid to watch videos online. For example, a company may want to try out some new ads with consumers and pay them for their feedback.
You can get paid for everything from viewing ads to playing games and shopping online.
Using InboxDollars, you can get paid for sparing just a few minutes of your time. If you’re a beginner side hustler looking to make money online, there is no more accessible place to start than sites like these.
- Type of Side Hustle: Active
- Time Investment: Varies
- Monetary Investment: None
- Earning Potential: $0.50 – $5.00 per survey
8. Sign Up for the Nielsen App
Have you ever heard of the brand Nielsen? They are most well-known for providing ratings for TV shows. However, they do more than that. They’re a company focused on all consumer behavior.
If you download the Nielsen app, you can earn $50 per year in rewards just for using your devices. While this isn’t exactly big bucks, getting paid for doing nothing is a pretty sweet deal.
- Type of Side Hustle: Passive
- Time Investment: None
- Monetary Investment: None
- Earning Potential: $50 per year
9. Test Websites & Apps
When companies create new websites or mobile apps, they look for feedback from real people. They don’t get that feedback for free, though. They pay users to try them out!
Using a service like UserTesting.com, you can work with big-name brands to try out their latest website and app ideas!
While you are trading your time for money, this can be a great way to make some extra money in your spare time. UserTesting.com pays $4 for every 5-minute test (which works out to $48/hour), $10 for every 20-minute test ($30 per hour), and between $30 and $120 for live interviews.
If you want to know how to make $100 a day online without investment, testing websites and apps is a great option.
- Type of Side Hustle: Active
- Time Investment: Varies
- Monetary Investment: None
- Earning Potential: $30+ per hour
10. Start an Online Store
If you’re the creative type, consider starting an online store to sell your products. Believe it or not, I know people making a full-time living off their Etsy Shops.
The biggest challenge with starting an online store is finding your audience. But once you do, it’s possible to make a pretty nice side income.
Maybe you create cool graphic t-shirts or sell art that you paint. Whatever your talent, marketing it online is a fun way to combine a hobby with side income.
- Type of Side Hustle: Active
- Time Investment: High
- Monetary Investment: Varies
- Earning Potential: Varies
11. Start a Blog
If you want to know how you can make $100 a day fast, you should look elsewhere. Starting a blog is not easy. It takes hundreds of hours of content production, research, and more. Anyone who says otherwise is not being honest with you.
That said, blogging is one of the most lucrative businesses you can start from the comfort of your home.
While it varies, I am confident you can build a blog business that produces at least $500 per month in one year or less.
How do I know? Because I started After School Finance as my first ever blog and did exactly that. I knew nothing of blogging, had a limited understanding of websites, and had no formal training in writing.
But what I did have was a desire to help people with their finances and create the best personal finance content on the internet.
If you’re willing to put in the time, blogging can create meaningful income. My recommendation would be to start by getting quality web hosting, purchase a domain, and then dig in.
I would not have been able to scale this blog quickly without investing money in courses to help me learn what I was doing. The two best courses I recommend getting started with are Launch Your Blog Biz by Create and Go and Stupid Simple SEO by Mike Pearson.
- Type of Side Hustle: Active
- Time Investment: High
- Monetary Investment: Moderate
- Earning Potential: $500 per month in 12 months or Less (with the ability to scale to thousands per month after that)
12. Buy a Profitable Website
Want to skip to the end where you own a profitable blog or website? It turns out that is, in fact, an option.
On sites like Empire Flippers and Flippa, you can find profitable web businesses for sale. While this removes a lot of the upfront work, you need to continue managing the website profitably. If you don’t yet have the experience of running an internet business, this can be a risky proposition.
Here’s how it works. Let’s say a website does $1,000 per month in net income. Typically, a website will sell for a multiple of 35x – 40x monthly income. So, a website producing $1,000 per month would likely sell for ~$35,000. If you have the money to invest in a website, it’s quite easy to make $100 a day.
While this sounds like a lot, you’re buying a business that has been built for you, and with no further growth, the business would effectively pay for itself in about three years.
This path requires a lot of due diligence and understanding of what you’re buying, but it can be a good way to buy a full-fledged business and diversify your investments.
- Type of Side Hustle: Active
- Time Investment: Moderate
- Monetary Investment: High
- Earning Potential: Varies based on website purchased
13. Start a YouTube Channel
Believe it or not, countless people make a full-time living from their YouTube channels. The combination of ad revenue and affiliate marketing can make YouTube highly lucrative if you have a sizeable audience.
Of course, there’s more to starting a YouTube channel than just throwing together some videos and hoping for the best. To be successful on YouTube, you must know what your audience is looking for and help them find it.
YouTube is a search engine. Your goal as a content creator is to help people find your content. The way you do that is by producing content that satisfies user intent (i.e., what is the user looking for) and makes it as easy as possible for them to find it (through proper keywording, etc.).
If you decide to get started on YouTube, find a YouTube marketing course, so you get started on the right foot.
- Type of Side Hustle: Active
- Time Investment: High
- Monetary Investment: Moderate (acquiring software + gear to create videos)
- Earning Potential: $3 – $5 per 1,000 video views (according to Influencer Marketing Hub)
How to Make $100 a Day Driving
In the gig economy, if you have access to a car, it’s so easy to make a few extra bucks! Here are the top ways you can make money driving.
14. Drive for Uber or Lyft
Driving for Uber or Lyft is about as easy as it gets when it comes to side hustles. Just go where the app tells you! Most drivers I’ve spoken with really enjoy meeting people and seeing new places.
You can choose your hours and work as little or as much as you want. Just make sure to check with your insurance carrier before you start to make sure you have adequate coverage!
Sign up with Uber or Lyft to get started!
- Type of Side Hustle: Active
- Time Investment: High
- Monetary Investment: None (assuming you have a car and appropriate insurance already)
- Earning Potential: $14.73 per hour (before expenses, according to Ridester)
15. Deliver Food
Skittish about having people you don’t know in your car? No problem! There are countless other ways you can make money driving your car!
One such way is by delivering food using an app like Doordash, Grubhub, or Seamless.
Like driving for Uber or Lyft, you can pick your hours and work as much or as little as you’d like.
- Type of Side Hustle: Active
- Time Investment: High
- Monetary Investment: None (assuming you have a car)
- Earning Potential: $22 per hour (before expenses, according to Doordash)
16. Shop for Others using Instacart
Want something a little more active? Have you considered grocery shopping for others?
Using a service like Instacart, you can help others by shopping for and delivering their groceries. While this side hustle takes a little more work (because you’re doing the grocery shopping), it’s an excellent way to get out of the house and get some extra exercise.
According to The Rideshare Guy, you can make $15 – $20 per hour working for Instacart.
- Type of Side Hustle: Active
- Time Investment: High
- Monetary Investment: None (assuming you have a car)
- Earning Potential: $22 per hour (before expenses, according to The Rideshare Guy)
17. Deliver for Amazon
Finally, if you’re opposed to having people or food in your car, I’ve got the side hustle for you.
Have you considered driving for Amazon Flex? With Amazon Flex, you simply reserve a block of time, make deliveries, and get paid! It’s that easy!
Sign up for Amazon Flex to get started!
- Type of Side Hustle: Active
- Time Investment: High
- Monetary Investment: None (assuming you have a car)
- Earning Potential: $18 – $25 per hour (according to Amazon)
How to Make $100 a Day Working for Others
If you prefer your side hustle to be helping others, I’ve got a few ideas for you to help you earn some extra income.
18. Pet Sit
Do you enjoy being around pets? If so, sign up to be a pet sitter on a service like Rover!
You can take care of pets in your own home or the owner’s home!
Don’t want the responsibility of taking care of a pet for several days? You can even sign up to walk people’s dogs or even have them over for doggy daycare!
What’s neat is that when you use Rover, you can even set your rates and availability. Most people treat pet sitting as a part-time side hustle, but some choose to do pet sitting full-time.
- Type of Side Hustle: Active
- Time Investment: Moderate
- Monetary Investment: None
- Earning Potential: $1,000 per month (2-3 dogs for two weeks per month, according to Rover)
19. Do Tasks for Others
There are countless things people on which people are seeking help. Using a service like TaskRabbit, you can help people with many different activities.
Here’s how it works. People post a request on TaskRabbit, and then people like you sign up to help! Some types of projects you can do are furniture assembly, hanging pictures, yard work, and much more! Just find something that aligns with your interests to get started!
Some other similar services are Thumbtack and Fiverr (though Fiverr is primarily for people looking for digital help).
- Type of Side Hustle: Active
- Time Investment: High
- Monetary Investment: None
- Earning Potential: Varies based on the activity
How to Make $100 a Day in Passive Income
If you want to make $100 a day in purely passive income with no time investment, your best option is to invest. While it will require a substantial amount of money to build meaningful passive income, the benefit here is no time is required.
Remember, all passive income streams require either upfront time or money, so decide which you have more of when picking a side hustle.
20. Invest in Stocks & Bonds
There is no more straightforward source of income than stocks and bonds. Stocks often pay dividends, and bonds pay a fixed rate of return. I like to call this mailbox money. Appropriately invest your dollars, and you can expect to collect regular checks.
In general, try to max out tax-advantaged accounts such as your 401(k) or IRA before investing in taxable accounts.
If you do not yet have a brokerage account, the one I recommend is M1 Finance. They even offer investment guidance through their pre-built portfolios based on your risk tolerance.
- Type of Side Hustle: Passive
- Time Investment: Minimal
- Monetary Investment: High
- Earning Potential: Varies based on the amount invested
21. Invest in Real Estate
Looking for something a bit more outside the box than stocks and bonds? Real estate is one of my favorite alternative asset classes to consider for your portfolio. Some attributes that make real estate stand out are:
- Positive cash flow
- Ability to benefit through appreciation (against an asset which can be leveraged)
- A tenant pays down your mortgage
- Tax advantages in the form of depreciation
When it comes to investing in real estate, you have choices. You can invest passively through real estate investment trusts (publicly traded real estate funds), online through a platform such as Fundrise, or actively through buying rental properties.
Beyond that, there are countless other real estate niches such as flipping, wholesaling, direct ownership of commercial properties (think office buildings, self-storage, etc.), and much more.
No matter which path you choose, real estate is an asset class that is easy to understand. Like all investments, real estate carries risk, but it’s easy to set yourself up to be successful once you know what you’re doing.
- Type of Side Hustle: Varies
- Time Investment: Varies
- Monetary Investment: High (though creative strategies can minimize the upfront investment requirement)
- Earning Potential: Varies
Make $100 a Day Cutting Your Expenses
Have you ever heard that a penny saved is a penny earned? It’s true! It’s a lot easier to keep a penny than make another penny!
I want to show you some ideas to save more with simple changes that can help boost your free cash flow.
22. Use Savings Apps
Do you subscribe to cable TV, internet, a home security service, a cell phone provider, or any others of the like? Of course, you do!
If that’s the case, chances are you’re overpaying. These providers have a habit of perpetual rate increases, meaning over time, you’ll be paying a lot more than when you started.
Enter services that can help you lower your bills! Services like Truebill and Trim can help negotiate with your providers to get you a lower rate – all with no change in service.
I realize this sounds too good to be true, but I assure you it’s not. I’ve used Truebill to save hundreds of dollars on my regular bills.
Here’s how it works. Submit your bill information, and if the service saves you money, you pay them a piece of the savings. That’s it. Truebill is by far the easiest money I have ever saved!
- Type of Side Hustle: Passive
- Time Investment: None
- Monetary Investment: None (though you will pay a percentage of the savings)
- Earning Potential: $50+ per month; varies based on number of services negotiated
23. Refinance your Debt
With interest rates remaining near record lows, there has never been a better time to refinance your debt.
Doing so could free up hundreds of dollars per month in additional free cash flow.
You can refinance your mortgage or even refinance your student loans! The best platform I have found for student loan refinancing is Splash. They guarantee the lowest rates, and everyone I know who has used them has had an excellent experience.
When you refinance your debt at a lower interest, you’ll keep more money in your pocket – money you can use for other purposes like investing. It’s a lot easier to make $100 a day through this saving strategy than it is to make more money.
- Type of Side Hustle: Passive
- Time Investment: Minimal
- Monetary Investment: None (other than possible closing costs)
- Earning Potential: Varies, but it’s possible to save hundreds of dollars per month
Other Ways to Make $100 a Day
If none of the ideas listed thus far are catching your fancy, I’ve got a few more up my sleeve for you to consider.
24. Write a Book
If you’re interested in writing, it’s possible to make some extra income by writing a book. The book could be fiction, self-help, or just about anything you desire.
In today’s world, writing and publishing a book isn’t nearly as difficult as it used to be. For example, it’s possible to publish your book with Kindle Direct Publishing and have it up and running on the Kindle store in a matter of hours.
However, writing a book will take time, and it will take even longer to sell your book if you don’t have an existing audience. However, if you do already have an audience (such as via a blog or YouTube channel), creating and selling a book is a natural way to boost your income.
- Type of Side Hustle: Active
- Time Investment: High
- Monetary Investment: Varies based on the approach to book creation and marketing
- Earning Potential: Varies
25. Rent Out a Room
One of the best ways to offset your housing costs is to consider renting out part of your primary residence.
If you own a multifamily home, you can rent out one or more units and live in one yourself. You will then have a tenant paying for the vast majority of your housing costs, darn near allowing you to live for free.
If you don’t own a multifamily home, think about renting out a room. This, too, can help offset your housing costs.
Finally, if you don’t want to share your house with anyone while you’re there, you could even put the property on Airbnb while you’re out of town! Again, all of these options reduce your housing costs and keep more money in your pocket!
- Type of Side Hustle: Passive
- Time Investment: Minimal
- Monetary Investment: Minimal
- Earning Potential: Varies from a few hundred dollars a month to thousands based on your strategy
26. Rent Out Your Car
If you have a car, chances are it spends most of its life sitting unused in your garage or at work.
A company called Turo aims to change that. Here’s the concept. Turo connects people who have cars with those who would like to rent cars. It’s a bit like Airbnb for cars.
Some people choose to acquire cars as investments to rent out on Turo. While this requires additional investment, it’s easy to get started with just the vehicle you have. There is no easier way to offset some of the costs of car ownership.
Turo also takes care of all the tricky bits like insurance, driver screening, and driver safety.
- Type of Side Hustle: Active
- Time Investment: Moderate
- Monetary Investment: None (assuming you already own a car)
- Earning Potential: $10,516 per year for one car, according to Turo
27. Sell Your Photos
Are you a talented photographer? If so, there’s money to be made selling your photos on a service like Shutterstock or Foap.
People are constantly searching services like these for images. If they choose to use your image, you’ll get paid!
While it may sound tricky, even I, the most amateur of photographers, have made money selling photos on services like this.
It’s a great way to combine a photography hobby with side income!
- Type of Side Hustle: Active
- Time Investment: High
- Monetary Investment: None
- Earning Potential: Anywhere from a few cents to a few dollars per image download
28. Get Paid to Lose Weight
Okay, in the category of wacky ways to make extra cash, you can, in fact, get paid to lose weight.
With a service called HealthyWage, you bet on your ability to lose weight.
Here’s how it works. First, set how much weight you want to lose, how long you need to lose it, and what you’re willing to wager.
For example, say you want to lose 20 pounds and believe you will need six months to complete this challenge. If you bet $50 per month ($300 total), you could win between $327 – $766 if you complete the challenge.
HealthyWage makes money by partnering with corporate and government clients. They use financial incentives to help you lose weight. If you reach your goal, you will profit. If you don’t, you will lose money. It’s within your control.
- Type of Side Hustle: Active
- Time Investment: High
- Monetary Investment: Moderate
- Earning Potential: Varies based on the amount wagered
29. Get Paid to Walk
While on the topic of leveraging healthy habits to make money, let’s talk about an app called Sweatcoin.
With Sweatcoin, you can earn rewards just for walking (and other regular activity). Over time, you’ll accrue in-app currency, which can be redeemed for cool items (and sometimes even cash!).
Check out my full Sweatcoin review to learn more.
- Type of Side Hustle: Passive
- Time Investment: Minimal
- Monetary Investment: None
- Earning Potential: Varies based on activity level
30. Earn Cash Back
One of my favorite ways to make more money is through using a cashback credit card like the Chase Freedom Unlimited. The Chase Freedom Flex is the best card for most people, as it fits various spending habits.
Using a credit card that provides rewards is a bit like getting a discount on everything you buy.
Depending on the type of spending that you do, certain cards will make more sense. For example, consider a card like the Chase Sapphire Reserve if you spend a lot on travel.
Of course, only use a credit card if you intend to pay the balance in full each month. Assuming you use credit cards responsibly, it’s possible to earn hundreds, if not thousands, back per year.
- Type of Side Hustle: Passive
- Time Investment: Minimal
- Monetary Investment: None (except your regular spending)
- Earning Potential: Varies based on spending volume
31. Ask for a Raise
Wondering how to make $100 a day doing nothing? The answer is easier than you think!
Ask for a raise!
Asking for a raise is the easiest way to earn extra money. It takes a matter of minutes, and it can be relatively easy to boost your salary.
Admittedly, you probably won’t earn an extra $100 per day by asking for a raise, but there isn’t an easier way to boost your earnings.
Are you looking for some guidance on how to ask for a raise? Check out the book Negotiating Your Salary: How to Make $1,000 a Minute. It has some great tips, and it helped me successfully boost my salary by thousands.
- Type of Side Hustle: Active
- Time Investment: Minimal
- Monetary Investment: None
- Earning Potential: $10,000+ per year
